Striking
the Perfect Balance: Nox-T3 For
Dentists, By Design
Home Sleep Testing, "HST" is a term that has
been widely interpreted to describe a variety of recording
methods for the purpose of detecting sleep apnea. Today, the
market is bombarded with new HST devices attracting the
dental community (and even direct to the patient) boasting
fancy mobile apps and gadgetry that are focused on
automation and quick answers to this potentially
life-threatening condition. While some of these gadgets are
fun, simple and effective for overall screening, they
certainly are not what we recommend for the dental
community! The biggest concern is that some of these devices
do not actually record sleep--they have a limited amount of
channels that may only capture non-essential respiratory
levels, giving the impression the patient has been
diagnosed.
When we sit down with our
dentist clients, one of the most common questions we get has
to do with the importance of "clinical yield" and ruling out
other apnea types with an HST device. Many Type III devices
on the market today have only 1 effort channel. AASM
guidelines indicate 2 effort channels are required to rule
out Central Sleep Apnea (CSA). This is critical for you as a
dentist when deciding whether to refer your patient to a
sleep lab if CSA is noted. The low-end devices cannot
definitively identify CSA.
In addition to being able to definitively document CSA,
DDME's Nox-T3 high-end Type III device has two effort belts
which are "fused and summed" into a virtual flow channel to
provide a back-up flow signal should the cannula flow
signal fail during the study, preventing the study from
being having to be repeated.
Moreover, a common trade-off accepted by dentists and
clinicians is to select a Type III device with greater
clinical yield and more feature-rich channels, in exchange
for the complexities inherent with unattended patient
hook-up and software reporting. This is not the case with
DDME's Nox-T3.
The Nox-T3 Strikes The Perfect Balance: Clinical
yield that instills confidence, wireless and intuitive
cloud-technology software, and simplified patient at home
hookup!
